I created today's card for the Crafty Collarborations Technique Tuesday Blog Hop.  The April theme is "Spotlighting".  This is a technique that I use fairly frequently because it is so effective at creating a simple focal point background.

To create this spotlight effect, I used the 2 3/8" circle punch to create a circle.  I then place the circle wherever I want the spotlight to be on the card front.  I use a blending brush to lightly apply ink all around the circle.  Another option is to use the cardstock with the punched out circle to apply the ink to the inside of the circle for the spotlight.  Either way, the options are endless on what to apply to your spotlight.  Give this technique a try!

Cutting instructions:
  • Card base- Basic White Thick: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".  This is a side fold card.
  • Front matte layer- Balmy Blue: 5 1/8" x 3 7/8"
  • Card front - Basic White: 5" x 3 3/4"
  • Inner matte layer - Balmy Blue: 5 1/8" x 3 7/8"
  • Inner message liner- Basic White: 5" x 3 3/4"
  • Spotlight circle - scrap: 2 3/8" circle punch
Assembly instructions:
  • Use bone folder to burnish the scoreline so there is a nice crisp crease.
  • Place circle on card front layer  (I like to use post-it tape looped on the back to hold the circle in place). Using Balmy Blue ink and a blending brush, lightly add ink all around the circle on the card front.  Remove the circle
  • Using Tuxedo Black ink, stamp image on spotlight circle.  Stamp sentiment in lower right corner.
  • Adhere card front to front matte layer.  Adhere to front of card base using dimensionals
  • Using Balmy Blue ink and blending brush, lightly add ink to two opposing corners of message liner.
  • Adhere message liner to inner matte layer.  Adhere to inner card base.
Check out everyone's idea of a spotlight!
